With National Doctors’ Day coming up at the end of this month, we want to spotlight some of the exceptional doctors in the West Tennessee Healthcare system. Dr. Steven Williams is a hospitalist at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, and in 2021, he received the prestigious Doctor of the Year Award. We asked Dr. Williams to share with us what the most rewarding part of his job is, and he explained, “One of the best parts of my job is seeing the patients improve. Often, patients come in very sick, requiring supplemental oxygen to help them breathe, or they’re extremely weak and unable to get out of bed. It is great to see them progress over their time at the hospital and be able to return home with their families.” Hearing from the loved ones of his patients has also been especially meaningful to Dr. Williams. He recalled, “I was at a baseball game for my nephew in Jackson recently. As I was leaving, a person came up to me and told me that I took care of her father. She told me how much her father enjoyed my care while he was at the hospital, but he recently passed away. She told me how difficult it was for her father to be sick and for her family to watch him battle his illness, but she remembered how the hospital staff took such great care of him during that time and made their family feel loved. The best part of our jobs as healthcare providers is to be able to help and serve others when they need us most.” Because of doctors like Dr. Williams, West Tennessee Healthcare is able to provide quality service to all of its guests. We are incredibly thankful for Dr. Williams and the kindness and care that he shows to each of his patients and their families.
